The letters after the name of this tea mean Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings Extra Special and it really is extra special, in fact, it’s quite amazing! If you like a strong, brisk cup of tea and need a bit of extra help waking up in the morning, then this is the tea for you!
This tea has been made in the style of an “extra special” tea originally created by the owners of the garden New Vithanakande. A blend of teas from the Ratnpura District in Sri Lanka, it has all the lovely apricot and chocolate notes we had grown to love in the original.
What makes this tea “extra special” is the way the tips’ silver hue is preserved, that is, not allowed to oxidize while the rest of the leaves do. This skilfully made blend combines teas from several different gardens grown at low and medium altitudes and is every bit as good as we remember the original New Vithanakande tea being. This tea has a deep, mineral flavour and a nice bright cup. A nice alternative to a strong, malty Assam, it’s also a great way to wake up and get concentrating!
