Description
The Sakura No En tea garden is run by the Matsumoto family. It consists of zairaishu (grown from seed) bushes and pursues a unique policy of non-fertilisation. The taste of the tea, combined with this unusual approach has resulted in much publicity for the Matsumotos in the form of articles in gourmet magazines and the harvest is almost always sold out before it has even taken place!
Not using chemical-synthetic fertilisers is such a given for the Matsumoto family, that they chose not to go to the trouble of filling in all the paperwork to get certified as providers of organic teas for the Japanese and European organic certification boards. While this has the disadvantage that no third party checks the compliance of the cultivation concept, we are confident that this tea is as pure as you can get, after all, Mr. Matsumoto’s farming practices go way beyond the requirements of the various certifying boards.
