Description
Darjeeling 1. Flush Jungpana Diamond FTGFOPI, DJ10 2026
This wonderful Jungpana Diamond First Flush 2026 first flush comes from the beautiful and unique tea garden, Jungpana Upper. What makes Jungpana unique is its location. To get to the entrance of the Estate you first need to drive down a very bumpy unpaved road which ends at a stream. From there, to get to the factory, you need to climb up 660 of steep steps cut into the hillside. Everything that enters and exits the tea garden has to come up or down those steps; seeing the workers skipping down the very uneven and steep steps at speed with a tea chest on their backs is quite a sight.
Hidden deep within the mist-covered Himalayan foothills, the legendary Jungpana Tea Estate is one of Darjeeling’s most romantic and secluded gardens. Surrounded by forests, mountain streams and dramatic slopes, the estate has earned an almost mythical reputation amongst Darjeeling connoisseurs for producing teas of remarkable finesse and purity. This unique location makes Jungpana an island of tea in a sea of forests. It is a completely natural environment with a unique micro-climate and the air is filled with chatter of tea pickers against a background of birdsong.
This exceptional First Flush was plucked on 19th March, carefully processed and packed just days later on 22nd March. Only expert tea pickers who are trained to pick the very youngest two leaves and a bud are allowed to pluck leaves for Jungpana’s top first flush teas. and the leaf was harvested from one of the garden’s highest sections at approximately 7,500 feet — around 2,286 metres above sea level — an unusually elevated area even by Darjeeling standards, where slow growth encourages great aromatic intensity.
Jungpana Diamond First Flush is made from the prized clonal cultivars AV2 and P312. These modern Darjeeling clones are celebrated for their highly expressive floral aromatics, creamy texture and luminous sweetness. AV2 in particular – the clonal plant used for Giddapahar Clonal Delight DJ09/26 (the very first of the three first flush Darjeeling teas we imported directly this year) – is renowned for producing intensely fragrant spring teas with notes reminiscent of white blossoms and ripe stone fruit, while P312 contributes structure, body and silky depth.
The dry leaf is beautifully wiry and elegant, with shades of olive green, silver and dark jade interwoven with delicate tips. Once infused, the cup opens with an intoxicating bouquet of spring flowers, fresh cream and alpine herbs. The flavour is layered and refined: soft floral notes, gentle sweetness and a distinctly creamy mouthfeel glide into a lingering, silky finish with almost no harshness.
Compared to the more classical China bush character of Margaret’s Hope, Jungpana Diamond First Flush is broader, creamier and more overtly aromatic — a modern, luxurious interpretation of Darjeeling First Flush while still retaining remarkable elegance and clarity.
This unique first flush tea is emblematic of the garden from which it comes, so it’s no surprise that the garden added the accolade ‘Diamond’ to its name!
The delicate green leaves and silver tips of Jungpana Diamond First Flush brew to a beautiful pale amber liquor. The infusion is wonderfully aromatic and flavoursome, with a unique combination of rose and lingering spring muscatel and absolutely no astringency.
