Description
Organic Assam Tonganagaon SFTGFOP1cl is an excellent example of a tea made from special “clonal” plants.
There are more than 900 tea estates in Assam and Tonganagaon, in the far East, is one of the few organic, certified fair trade ones. Founded in 1927, the name of the garden is based on the Assamese words for axe (“tongana”) and village (“gaon”). Allowed to run down for many years, in 2008 Tonganagaon was taken over by the Chamong group which also has gardens in Darjeeling. After much investment, including building a new factory and replacing old, weak plants with new strong clonals, the estate now provides an income to a workforce of 1400 people who in turn support the 6000 people living on the estate.
Organic Assam Tonganagaon SFTGFOP1cl is wonderfully well-rounded and has the typical malty, slightly spicy flavour one would expect from a high quality Assam but at the same time it is mild and harmonious in the cup, with a hint of dark honey.
Try this tea as an alternative to our Assam Mangalam. Although this tea is also from clonal plants we think you’ll notice the difference.
