Description
Uji Shohokuen Gyokuro Matsu no Tsukasa, 2025 harvest, 50 g pack
Gyokuro Matsu no Tsukasa comes from Uji, the historic birthplace of Gyokuro. It is produced by Shohokuen, a small family-owned company and is hand-picked just once a year. We have personally visited this producer, who also supplies the matcha used in our house brand, they are a trusted partner whose dedication to quality we have experienced firsthand.
Matsu no Tsukasa gyokuro is refined and elegant: soft floral notes, balanced umami, and a silky mouthfeel. Compared to the richer Gyokuros of Yame, this Uji tea favours subtlety and nuance. Expect gentle sweetness, a touch of fresh grass, hints of wet stone or forest after rain, and a long, lingering finish that is delicate rather than overpowering.
Compared to Yame Dentō Hon Gyokuro, although both teas are treasures of Japanese tea culture, they express different flavour profiles. Yame’s Sae Midori is rich, sweet, and powerful in umami, while Uji’s Matsu no Tsukasa highlights refinement and subtle layers of flavour. Enjoyed together or compared in a tasting against each other, they showcase the excellence of Japanese tea producers and the diversity of Gyokuro at its very finest.
