As great fans of the natural and secluded teagarden Samabeong, 2021 is a particularly special year for us as we have procured small amounts of both of their premium teas, the first flush “Spring Blossom” and this second flush, “Summer Blossom”. Hidden away, surrounded by beautiful scenery with a dense coniferous forest to the east and a river flowing to the south, Samabeong is about 8km away from the pretty mountain hamlet Lava, which is the gateway to the Neora Valley National Park.
With a plant base of largely China or China hybrid bushes, a temperate climate featuring dappled sunlight, heavy showers in the monsoons and breezy evenings throughout the year, altitudes of 1400 – 2000 meters and a sandy/ loam soil, it is hardly surprising that Samabeong produces such high quality and great tasting teas. This tea is made purely from the cultivar AV2, a variety of the teaplant known for its distinct sweet, honey flavour.
The dry leaf of this tea is of excellent quality and well rolled. Infused for just three minutes the liquor is clear and bright and the infusion mild. Left to brew for five minutes the liquor turns to a deep golden brown and a complex array of flavours are revealed. The sweetness of this tea lingers on the tongue long after the last sip has been taken, this is a premium quality second flush Darjeeling both for connoisseurs and those wishing to become accquainted with top quality Darjeeling teas.
