Description
Darjeeling Second Flush Castleton
We are big fans of the Castelton Darjeeling tea garden. It consistently produces high quality teas and this one, from fairly late in the second flush harvest, is very good value.
We visited the garden in 2015. The memory of arriving at the top of the long, bumpy road to the Castleton Estate and seeing the sign on the factory: “Top of the World” is a fond one, but not the only reason we are delighted to have sourced this tea. Castleton is a garden that can be relied upon to produce consistently excellent tea. Their teas are particularly prized for their unique muscatel flavour, comparable to that of sweet summer wines. As a result, they are sought after by connoisseurs around the world and many batches are sold to buyers in Japan, America, the UK and the Middle East before they are even produced.
The Castleton Tea Estate is divided into different sections with altitudes ranging from 1000 – 1830 metres. This tea comes from one of the lower elevations of the estate.
A beautifully crafted tea, the infusion is full-bodied for a second flush Darjeeling, with a stronger mouthfeel than you might expect, with a slight astringency and honey and mineral notes.
