Description
There’s a song that starts with “Every nation in creation has its favourite drink”. The song goes on to mention that in Germany it’s beer, that Russians love their vodka and the Turks drink coffee blacker than ink. If the song had mentioned South Africa the favourite drink would have been Rooibos; where it is popular amongst young and old.
Rooibos only grows in South Africa, in the mountainous Cederberg region 250 km to the north of Cape Town. This is an area where the air is clean and pure mountain streams nourish the slopes and valleys on which Rooibos is grown. The Mountains themselves are known for their extraordinary rock formations, well-preserved prehistoric rock paintings by the early San people and the rare Clanwilliam Cedar trees from which the area takes its name. Wild leopards still roam the area and for a few short weeks during spring each year, the entire region is transformed into a brilliant tapestry of multi-coloured wild flowers.
