Description
Schell Dark Chocolate Criollo Maracaibo, 70% Cocoa
Criollo Maracaibo is handcrafted from the finest Criollo cocoa beans sourced from the Maracaibo Lake region in Venezuela. Venezuela is one of the world’s oldest cocoa-exporting nations and the original home of Criollo cultivation along its northern coast. Although hybridisation with Trinitario and Forastero varieties has increased genetic diversity, Criollo remains the premium cocoa from this area that draws on centuries of expertise in cocoa production to ensure Venezuela maintains its reputation as a source of premium, single-origin cocoa.
With 70% cocoa content, this dark Criollo Maracaibo chocolate offers a full-bodied, sophisticated cocoa flavour enriched with delicate notes of coffee and plum, and subtle hints of orange blossom and cinnamon.
Criollo Cocao
The Criollo bean is renowned as the rarest and most refined cocoa variety. Traditionally grown under the shade of companion plants, it matures in optimal conditions that preserve its delicate character. This cultivation method protects the beans from direct sunlight while encouraging the development of complex flavours, including nuts, caramel, forest berries, and even tobacco.
