It’s important to stay hydrated in hot temperatures, but water alone can get boring. Shop-bought drinks often contain unnecessary sugar and preservatives, making homemade alternatives a healthier and more appealing choice. Our Green Ginger Lemon Iced Tea is quick to make, can be tailored to your personal preferences, and offers a host of health benefits depending on the ingredients you choose.
In this recipe, we create a concentrated iced green tea with ginger, lemon and peppermint that pairs beautifully with chilled sparkling mineral water. Perfect for a hot afternoon or as a relaxing alternative to wine in the evening (you can leave out the green tea for this option), this delightful drink combines the zesty freshness of lemon, the warming spice of ginger and the cooling notes of peppermint. Served in a wine glass, it adds a touch of elegance and is perfect for any occasion.
Join us as we guide you through the steps to make this delicious and healthy drink. Once you’ve mastered our recipe, feel free to experiment with your own variations by substituting different herbs for the mint. If fresh herbs are not available, natural loose leaf herbal infusions such as Ginger & Lemon or Summer Breeze work just as well as iced tea and are a convenient and tasty alternative.
Ingredients
- 1 Liter filtered water
- 15 g green tea (optional)
- 1 large lemon
- A handful of peppermint leaves
- 80 – 100 g fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
- Honey or sweetener (optional)
- Ice cubes
- Sparkling mineral water
Instructions
- Boil water with ginger: Bring the water and ginger to the boil in a medium saucepan. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and add the peppermint: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the fresh peppermint leaves and let the infusion steep for 5 minutes.
- Add the green tea and lemon juice: By this time the temperature should have dropped to around 80°C. Add the loose leaf tea (we chose Long Jing for its antioxidant properties, but any green tea will do) and the juice of half a lemon. Let the tea infuse for a further 3-4 minutes.
- Sweeten (Optional): If you prefer your tea sweetened, add honey or your preferred sweetener while the tea is still warm. Stir until fully dissolved.
- Strain and chill: Strain the iced tea concentrate into a jug or carafe about a third full of ice.
- Serve: Fill a glass with ice cubes and pour the tea concentrate until the glass is half full. Top up with chilled sparkling mineral water.
- Garnish and Enjoy: Garnish with additional lemon slices or a sprig of fresh mint. Serve in a wine glass for an elegant touch and enjoy your refreshing ginger lemon iced tea!
